i couldn't resist... & it's all oprah's fault.

i am posting a full post tonight, but since i am behind, i at least wanted to share with you the little one i couldn't resist adding to our family yesterday...

Photobucket

back story, we have spent forever pet-less due to allergies. finally, hubby agreed to letting the kids get a pet that would stay contained and not have free reign of the house, so we adopted Bunny the guinea pig last week.

well, i am a SUCKER for google. i do it too much and load up on way too much information (mostly on self diagnosed illnesses:) so i read guineas like to have buddies. i read it over and over again and then talked to someone at the 100th trip to petsmart. sooooooo, I purchased another guinea pig as a friend for Bunny. his name is Fluffy.

well this was a fab idea until Bunny-the-guinea pig kicked Fluffy-the-guinea pig's ass. it wasn't pretty and now i spend 50% of my day babysitting kickboxing guinea pigs. not fun. peyton runs to save 'her' pig and beckham is quick to defend 'his' pig. we are family divided over here.

last night, i heard peyton say this to beckham (in a bitter voice) "beckham, you are just mad that my guinea pig is cuter than yours!"

I swear to you, beckham looked up with shock and and horror that anyone, ever would suggest such a preposterous notion about his beloved guinea pigs. HE COVERED HIS GUINEAS EARS! it was... classic.

needless to say, one of our guineas has to be returned to the pet store because after many test runs of the pigs sharing a space has ended in tears from my kids and one scared little guinea pigs. i'm over it!

worrying about the kids being upset, i thought picking up another pet, a kinder one, before returning the hotheaded guinea, would be the easiest way.

we visited a pet store that took the kids and i an hour to get to (picture crying, screaming, hot, and bored kids in the backseat of the car). we walked in and saw the guineas housed with little dwarf bunnies...we saw one, we fell in love with one and it was part of the family ten minutes later. a bag of pellets, a salt lick, and a sweet and tiny thumper looking baby bunny later...we were on the way to soccer practice and i was hooked!

cross your fingers that this will work because i am only into week two of owning a pet and i'm about ready to move out and let animal kingdom reign in all it's glory in the darwish household!

cleaning the cage, feeding, nurturing, supervising, dusting, and vacuuming takes up a lot of my day but watching my babies love and care for these little pets...well, it just makes it easier for me to do the dirty work.

and i can't resist this little bunny!
meet Fluff! peyton named her.

quite honestly, i think this is all oprah's fault. i bought baby bunny because i am devastated. if i hear one more, so long-farewell song to the oprah winfrey show...i may just throw myself on the floor and start kicking, screaming, and crying. my stomach aches each time i hear the tributes and the countdown. its like the big hoopla before your 30th birthday. it's not the day you turn 30, 40, 50, ... that hurts- it's the days before the actual birthday. it hurts:)

the same way with oprah ending, i suspect.

so, the bunny is making me feel better! that's my story and my sticking to it!

another post tonight! xoxo

  3. Too funny! Just don't make the mistake I did and leave Fluff in an outside cage on a 90 degree day. Yikes. It was the day my two oldest boys moved out and I was so distraught packing their things that I forgot about poor Snuffles. (We rarely get 90 degree days in Oregon, or I would not have left him in the hutch.) My little kids have never forgiven me...even though I told them there is a special place in Heaven for stiff, sun-burnt bunnies.
I loved the story about Beckham covering his guinea pig's ears- TOO CUTE! :)

  4. First of all, holy sh*t that's one cute bunny!!!!!!! Please let us know when we can come to snuggle us some Fluff! Secondly, Patti? That is such a sad, classic pet story. :o( Pets can certainly add to the tragic part of childhood. Like the time our gerbil Nessie mysteriously became obese one morning on the very same day her 19 babies went missing. Hmm... And thirdly, I think it's funny how I think the exact opposite about Oprah. The other day Ang and I renamed an episode "Who's More Annoying and Self-Congratulatory?" when Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts were guests. ;o) Love you.

  5. such a cute pet bunny I would love to get for our kids so much cuter than a guinea pig but in QLd Australia you are not allowed to have them as pets they are seen as pests unfortunately

  6. oh my word the whole saga is just hilarious! so which guinea pig did you keep, do you have fluff and fluffy or fluff and bunny?

  7. Ah so adorable! We grew up with guinea pigs & a bunny :) PS, give them lots of fresh fruit/veggies - they love it! We think it's what kept my bunny alive for the 8 years we had him (we then gave him away a few years ago, and don't know what happened to him). But really. He was litter box trained as well ;) So much easier to clean up!

tisha, i was waitng for that question...LOL. i am confused too, but right now we have
Bunny (guinea pig), Fluffy (second guinea pig that got beat up...and bit me this morning btw), and Fluff (the baby bunny).

i have to get rid of one, so i will post which two we keep, but i KNOW Fluff (the bunny is a keeper cause i'm in love it with it and it doesn't cause any troubles:) xo

  12. SO ADORABLE!
OMG Heidi ~ I am feeling the same way about Oprah. I've never quite let myself believe that the show will be no longer. I keep hoping that maybe they'll just start running re-runs from day one for the next 25 years on Ch. 7 at 4pm. This final countdown is killing me.
